CURRENT IMPORTANT INFORMATION

WELCOME TO THE 2009-10 SCHOOL YEAR! THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENTS DEAL WITH CURRENT ACTIVITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES:

  • E-MAIL CONTACT: Please be sure to let your school know that e-mails from dlt@fairpoint.net or salmon1242@fairpoint.net are not junk mail. These are the addresses we will contact you from to give you important updates and information. director@ybeep.org and scheduling@ybeep.org are new addresses that we are changing to.(Posted 1/21/2010)

  • SALMON SPAWNING FIELD TRIPS: 2168 students, teachers, and members of the public participated in the 2009 salmon spawning field trips and everyone saw live fish!. Unfortunately, the number of requests exceeded the number of days in the spawning season. We will work with those schools that could not go to arrange other appropriate learning opportunities. A special "THANK YOU" to Don Watts and Swiftwater Cellars for funding YBEEP's salmon spawning presentations for Yakima Basin schools for 2009, and to the following organizations who committed bus funding for 8 schools that would not have been able to participate without their support: Kittitas Conservation Trust, Kittitas County Trout Unlimited, Pacific Power, Roy Farms, Yakama Forest Products, Steve George, and Charlie De La Chappelle. Port-a-potties for the site were donated by Cle Elum Kiwanis. (Posted 10/17/09)

  • SALMON CARCASS DISSECTIONS: We have our new supply of salmon carcasses available now. Contact us if you are interested in having them delivered or arranging a dissection. (Posted 12/28/09)

  • SALMON IN THE CLASSROOM: It is that time of year again to set up your salmon tanks and test your equipment before leaving for Christmas Break. You can unplug your equipment over the break and plug it in again when you return to school. Eggs and feed will be delivered January 7 & 8, 2010. (Posted 12/28/09)

  • INFORMATION & CURRICULUM LINK: We have updated the "Information & Curriculum" page on this website adding new links, particularly ones to lists of native plants and wildlife species for our area.

  • RAPTOR HOUSE REHAB CENTER: Marsha Flamm, raptor rehabilitator, can be contacted through her website: Raptor House Rehab Center

  • BIRD DATA COLLECTION PROJECTS: If you would like your students to be involved in collecting data on birds in your area to be submitted to Cornell University, visit this site: WildWise Student Projects. These projects can be done on your schoolgrounds or someplace within walking distance; and involve collecting real data for real research.
